We are in the midst of our first heat wave of the season. The humidex reached 100 here today. I have done almost no work in the garden for the last 3 days because of this heat. Did a few minutes of weeding this morning but that was about it.

Frank has been working on cutting the grass but we are looking at garden tractors as we would prefer to keep all the grass anywhere around the house short to reduce the problem with ticks.

I have planted out all the germinated beans and filled one whole bed with three different varieties.

Continuing to weed the asparagus beds almost daily. Tufted Vetch and of course the blackberry and raspberry canes still trying to grow in the beds. I am trying to stay on top of them. A bit behind in beds 4 and 5 due to the heat.

Need to weed out the bed with the parsnips now that they have finally begun to germinate and I can see them.

Something was eating the brassicas... again. I made wire hoops from a roll of wire we had and covered both beds with row cover. It would appear that is has worked. We checked today and counted the missing plants so we can continue to check and see if there are any more missing. I will just go to a garden center and pick up a few plants to replace them.

The bed with the peas is doing very well. I have compared the direct sown plants to the transplanted ones and really, the DS are doing much better. Will not bother to transplant spinach and beets in future. Not worth the trouble.

The beets did not transplant well. We have lost most of them. Will clear most of that bed and just plant seed. Lesson learned from this experiment.

Wood order has come for the new raised beds in rows 2 and 3. Frank began to cut them up today. Will begin to build the beds this week.
